What a Logo Should Actually Cost (And Why the Range Is So Wide)
Logo quotes range from $5 to $50,000 for what looks like the same deliverable. Here is what actually drives the price, and how to work out which end of the range you need.
Investor and sales decks fail for the same design reasons. Here is what to fix, and why the slide you spend longest on is usually the one nobody reads.
Two things are called a “deck” and they are not the same document.
A presented deck supports someone talking. A sent deck has to work alone. Designing one and using it for both is the most common and most expensive mistake in deck work — it produces slides too dense to present and too thin to read.
Decide which you are making. If you need both, make two versions from one system; it is far less work than it sounds once the system exists.
Every slide has a paragraph on it. If the text is complete, the audience reads it and stops listening. A presented slide should carry one idea and let the speaker supply the rest.
Charts inherited from a spreadsheet. Default colours, default gridlines, a legend nobody can match to the bars. A chart in a deck has one job — make one comparison obvious — and default output almost never does that.
No hierarchy. Everything is the same size, so the eye has nowhere to start. Someone glancing up mid-sentence cannot find the point.
The logo on every slide at full size. Nobody has forgotten whose deck it is. It costs attention and space on every single slide.
Inconsistent everything. Three heading sizes because slides were built at different times by different people. This is what makes a deck feel improvised regardless of the content.
One idea per slide, in the headline. Write the headline as the conclusion, not the topic. “Revenue by quarter” is a label. “Revenue doubled after we changed the pricing” is the point. If someone reads only your headlines, they should get the whole argument.
Build a type scale and stick to it. Three sizes is enough: slide headline, supporting line, caption. Every slide drawing from the same three is what makes a deck look designed.
Design the chart, do not paste it. Remove the gridlines, drop the legend and label the series directly, grey everything except the one series that matters, and put the takeaway in the title. A chart with one highlighted bar communicates in a second; the same chart with five equal bars takes ten.
Establish a small set of slide layouts. Statement, statement plus visual, two-column comparison, data slide, section break. Five layouts covers a whole deck and removes the per-slide decision.
Use section breaks. A full-bleed slide with two words on it gives the audience a moment to reset and signals structure. Decks without them blur.
Leave real margins. Cramped slides read as anxious. Space reads as confidence.
If it is going by email:
The temptation is to build up to the point. In practice, most audiences — investors especially — want the shape of the thing in the first two minutes and the evidence afterwards.
Lead with what you do and why it matters. Then the evidence. Then the detail. If someone stops reading at slide five, they should still have understood the proposition.
Print six slides at thumbnail size, or view them at 25%, and look at the sequence.
You should be able to follow the argument from the headlines alone, with the visuals confirming rather than carrying it. If you cannot, the deck depends on someone reading every word — which, in a room or an inbox, they will not.
Deck systems are part of what our graphic design service covers — built as reusable layouts rather than a one-off file, so the fifth deck takes an afternoon.

A practical guide to Amazon main image requirements — the rules that get listings suppressed, the ones sellers misread, and how to design a compliant main image that still competes.
Most brand guidelines are either two pages or two hundred, and neither gets used. Here is what a document people actually follow contains.
